South Africa's Anrich Nortje has catapulted up the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings following his standout performance against Sri Lanka at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Nortje's remarkable figures of 4/7 in New York, where South Africa triumphed over Sri Lanka by six wickets, set a new record for the best bowling figures by a Proteas bowler in Men's T20 World Cup history. This feat propelled him nine places up the rankings, securing him the eighth spot. Nortje now stands as the second-highest ranked pace bowler, trailing only Australia’s Josh Hazlewood.
His exceptional display not only earned him the Player of the Match award but also solidified his position as a key figure in South Africa's bowling attack. His rise in the rankings has also seen Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi move up to 10th place, courtesy of his outstanding performance of 5/9 against Uganda. Meanwhile, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, after their impressive opening partnership for Afghanistan, have also made significant strides in the Men's T20I Batting Rankings.
Additionally, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan has capitalized on Wanindu Hasaranga’s below-par showing, taking over the top spot in the All-Rounder Rankings. As the tournament progresses, these rankings are sure to see more fluctuations, reflecting the performances of the world's best T20 cricketers.
